STEM Café: Measles Epidemics and Immunizations

Measles was declared eradicated in 2000, but measles outbreaks are now at a new high, with more than 1,100 confirmed cases in the United States in the first half of 2019. What are the immunization facts and current situation? What has happened to those who have not been vaccinated, and why should we care?

As promised, Trevor Noah will be at the NIU Convocation Center for a night of laughter on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12TH AT 7:00PM. Doors will open at 6:00pm. Special guest includes writer for the today show Angelo Lozada.

Tickets for Trevor Noah go onsale Friday, May 3rd at 10am. Tickets start at $25.50 and are reserved seats. Tickets can be purchased at the NIU Convocation Center box office, all Ticketmaster Outlets, Ticketmaster.com, or by phone at 800-745-3000. NIU Students may buy their tickets in advance starting at 10am on Thursday, May 2nd with a valid NIU OneCard at the Convocation Center box office (limit 4).

Hustle for Hearing is hosted by NIU Student Academy of Audiology! All proceeds go to Hear the Cheers, an organization that gives hearing aids and assistive listening devices to children in the Chicagoland area who can not afford them! Our goal is to raise awareness and help children with hearing loss in and outside of the classroom!

Race is 30$ and includes shirts, snacks, and water! Prizes are available for winners and there will be a RAFFLE!!!

STEM Café: Combatting the Opioid Epidemic – One Year Later

Experts in DeKalb County continue to collaborate to reduce opioid usage and address related issues. Find out what progress is being made toward eliminating this crisis. Interested audience members will have a chance to be trained in the use of Narcan to prevent death related to overdose. Narcan will be provided to anyone who attends the training.

Learn to canoe, kayak, or standup paddle on NIU’s East Lagoon. Please select your choice of lesson, you may select more than one.
Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Meet on the north side of NIU’s East Lagoon along College Ave.

Full Moon Hike with NIU Outdoor Adventures

All Ages | Guided by the moonlight during the Harvest Moon, explore the nighttime woods and learn about nocturnal critters and enjoy other educational activities during this free event. Meet at the Pavilion near the pond. 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Presented by NIU Outdoor Adventures.
