Movie Showing: Abominable

After teenage Yi discovers a Yeti on the roof of her apartment building, she and two friends set out on a quest to reunite the creature with his family. However, with a wealthy financier and a zoologist pursuing them, Yi and her friends must stay one step ahead to protect their new friend. This PG animated movie runs for 1 hour and 37 minutes. No treats are provided, but you may bring your own non-messy snack to enjoy in the room during the show. No registration is required to attend this free program. 3D Print Snowflakes

Join us as we learn the free, web-based 3D design program TinkerCAD to design your very own snowflake. After class they will be 3D printed and will be available for pick up in a few days. The class (and 3D design) are completely free.

Participants need to be at least 12 years old (10 and 11-year-olds are welcome with an assisting accompanying adult). Class size is limited, sign-up begins a half-hour before class at the Tech Desk—first come first serve.

Homeschool Happenings – Do as the Romans Do

From aqueducts to gladiators, explore the vast Roman empire and their traditions.  We’ll learn about their many technological advances, their religious system, and their history.

This event is open to kids of all ages.  Everyone is invited to attend and discover what homeschooling is all about.

Local Jobs and Hiring Resources Workshop

Are you interested in local job opportunities? Are you tired of submitting too many online job applications? Come learn about new local free resources that connect jobseekers with employers in the DeKalb area. Participants will learn about new ways to reach local employers with job openings and how to make themselves easily available to local businesses.

This workshop is free and intended for teens and adults. No registration is required.

Intellectual Inquiries: Wild Child

Does the topic of feral children, those raised in extreme isolation, interest you? Hear a well-researched presentation by a teen for teens, and discuss the sociological implications.

This free program is for ages 14-17 or grades 9th-12th. Registration is not required.

Intellectual Inquiries provides a place and time for you to present your “talk,” and have a round table discussion with fellow interested teens. Mighty Makers: Run, Robots, Run!

Go, robots! Can you drive Sphero through a maze? Make Dash play a xylophone? Code an Ozobot by drawing? If you’ve been wanting to play with the library’s robots, this is your chance to try them all on the same day. This program is part of Mighty Makers, our making club for K-5th grade students. We meet monthly to do a STEM challenge. Children in K-2nd grade are strongly encouraged to attend with an adult. Space is limited to 20 participants. Registration for this free program will begin 1 hour before the start of the program, at the Youth Services Desk. First come, first served.
