Meet Author Neal Shusterman

Join NIU’s STEM Read for a conversation, audience Q&A and book signing with Neal Shusterman. Shusterman is the New York Times bestselling author of more than thirty award-winning books for children, teens, and adults, including the Unwind dystology, the Skinjacker trilogy, Downsiders, and Challenger Deep, which won the National Book Award. Scythe, the first book in his latest series, Arc of a Scythe, is a Michael L. Printz Honor Book. He also writes screenplays for motion pictures and television shows.

At this public talk, Shusterman will discuss his work, his writing process and the ways he incorporates real science and technology concepts into his chilling visions of the future. Books will be available for purchase.

The event is free and open to the public.

A Winter Evening Together

During “A Winter Evening Together”, local author Kyle L. White will share humorous and reflective stories to benefit Neighbors’ House, a DeKalb County not-for-profit. The evening will take place Friday, February 21, 7-8:30 pm  at The Freight Room, located in the DeKalb County Community Foundation, 475 DeKalb Avenue, Sycamore.

White’s writing has been reviewed as: “Strik[ing] the perfect balance between nostalgia, insight, & humor”.  And, “Always gets the reader contemplating life’s deeper questions, often within moments of delightful laughter”. His first book, Wisconsin River of Grace (Cornerstone Press, 2009), was chosen for Northern Public Radio’s Winter Book Series. And, Neighbor As Yourself  (2016) was  featured in Northern Public Radio’s #ReadWithMe series.  He lives in Sycamore, Illinois with his family. More information can be found at KyleWhiteInk.com

The event will raise funds for Neighbors’ House, a local not-for-profit providing reading and homework help in income-eligible housing communities in DeKalb County since 2003. For more information, visit NeighborsHouse.org

The cost for the evening is a donation of any amount to Neighbors’ House. All forms of payment are accepted.   

Lit & Fit

Looking for an opportunity to get fit in mind and body? Join the Sycamore Library and Sycamore Park District for Lit and Fit! Participants will read and discuss popular titles each month, followed by a 45 minute walk around the indoor track.
