“Sun Goes Down, Stars Come Out” will feature guest hosts Ruth Keran, and Mandy Lynn. Keran will also perform a set of event themed dances, set to music chosen by writer Daniel Sherrill. Live music will be provided by Shelbie Jo, Adam Linder, Bill Leighly, Jaysen Curran, Joel LaVaughn, Matt Carlson of Section Gang, Tris Abrams of the band Fire the Cannon, and Natalie Gittleson.
Common Grounds in DeKalb continues to support area musicians with an easy going and creative venue in which to show their talents. Dan Sherrill explains, “The owner, Jeff Foster, has been a joy to work with. We had performed in his previous location earlier this year, and we are privileged to be able to debut in his brand new one. Jeff continues to be welcoming to area artists and his artistic vision has resonated throughout our local music scene. ”
The event was written and conceived by Daniel Sherrill, and was inspired by the night he had met and cast local former Marine, Carolyn Morris near the beginning of October. The event will include an award presentation from Wooden Box Theater to Morris as she accepts their 2018 “Most Inspirational Award,” for her assistance in the creation of the event. Event writer Daniel Sherrill explains, “The casting and eventual meeting of Carolyn Morris was a perfect twist of fate. She happily agreed to jump-start the creation of our event, and offered her creativity and support from the moment the event was signed. We found her at just the right time to make the best impact.”
Wooden Box Theater, as a performance and event writing team, began on stage during an edition of Open Mic at the House Cafe in July of 2006, and continues to evolve into an event directing team which has toured area venues in DeKalb and Kane County since. Their events typically feature a running story-line, along with exclusive live musical performances, fashion walks, and guest hosts, along with theatrical segments.
