20th Annual “Biking with Beanzie” Bicycle Ride July 15, 2018
“Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike.” -John F. Kennedy
The Kishwaukee Kiwanis invites you to DeKalb, Illinois on Sunday, July 15, 2018 for the 20th annual “Biking with Beanzie” bicycle ride. DeKalb is sixty miles west of Chicago and 30 miles southeast of Rockford. The City of DeKalb has been officially recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community due to the variety, quality and accessibility of its biking trails. We invite you to join hundreds of riders from all over the region to embark on a summer biking adventure.
Beanzie is a family friendly, recreational ride with varying distances to suit everyone – from the novice to the more experienced rider. The Beanzie ride is well organized and supported by Kishwaukee Kiwanis, local Kiwanis Affiliate Groups (the Key Club and the AKtion Club), and partnering service groups like 4-H. The Kishwaukee Kiwanis Club is also grateful for the generous support of Northwestern Medicine as the ride co-sponsor.
Participants are encouraged to register early, either online or by mail. Registration also is available for walk-ins on the day of the event. You can choose a road ride of approximately 25, 46, 62, 80, or 101 miles. The routes have well-marked directions and humorous signage throughout the course. Novice riders or families with younger children may choose an off-road that follows scenic local bike pathways. Distances of three, five, and eight miles can be selected at a cost of $10 for adults (children 12 and under are free). Registration includes cue sheets for routes, rest stops with refreshments, SAG (Support and Gear) support, post-ride access to showers, and tasty food options. Festive 20th anniversary Beanzie T-shirts are included, but are only guaranteed for riders who preregister. Special 20th anniversary Beanzie jerseys may be ordered as well.
On ride day, July 15, registration for “Biking with Beanzie” will begin at 6:30 a.m. at DeKalb High School, 501 W. Dresser Road in DeKalb. The ride will finish where it started. All riders must be finished by 3:30 p.m. that day. As a participant in the “Biking with Beanzie” event, you will not only have a great time, but you will also make an investment in our area. Profits from this ride go to support Kishwaukee Bike Pathway projects and other charitable causes within DeKalb County.
