About this event:
On Saturday April 21st at 7:00pm area performance group Wooden Box Theater will present a night that will display local theatrical performers, belly dance, poetry, and live music with their production of “Chasing that Moon : Beatles Nite 8,” the group’s 8th annual Beatles themed event, and will take place inside ‘University Suite,’ an event space located on the 2nd floor of the NIU Holmes Student Center. The event’s name was inspired by a lyric in the 2005 Sara Evans song, “A Real Fine Place to Start.”
“Chasing that Moon” will feature live music by Robyn Byrd of the bands Radiator and Unhalfbanding, Bill Leighly, Joel LaVaughn, Matt Carlson of Section Gang, and ForeverStardust (featuring event co-writer Zephirine Moon Garden and Bear Wolf). Area rap performer Visionary J will debut with the group during the event for a set of original music. There will also be special guest supporting acts throughout the night.
During the event the audience will be treated to original poetry read by long-time Wooden Box Theater collaborator, Gladys Sanchez, who has been performing with the group since spring of 2013. Along with Sanchez, ForeverStardust co–founder, Bear Wolf, will also be reading poetry of his own to audience members in attendance.
Wooden Box Theater event co-writer, Zephirine Moon Garden will perform a set of Beatles Nite inspired belly dances during the presentation. She had originally joined the group in November of 2011, and as of late has become the main creative force behind it’s events and the mapping out of story-line segments during the group’s performances.
The event was written and conceived by Daniel Sherrill and Zephirine Moon Garden. The pair have been co-writers within Wooden Box Theater since the beginning of the group’s 2017-2018 tour titled, ‘The Re:Emergence of Wooden Box Theater,” for which this event is the final date of, which began in October and finishes April 21st at ‘Chasing that Moon.”
The group began it’s ‘Beatles Nite’ annual tradition in 2011 at the House Cafe, and have brought the ever evolving event to the Ellwood House, Hampton Inn, and NIU Skyroom, and this year it will serve as the lead-in event to segue into Wooden Box Theater’s much anticipated May 20th return event at the House Cafe, “Life in the Faster Lane.”Event co-writer Dan Sherrill explains, “With the five year buildup to our return to the House Cafe, we decided to utilize this year’s Beatles Nite to bridge the tour we are wrapping up and the transition to our new production at the House Cafe with our full-on cast.”
Wooden Box Theater, as a performance and event writing team, began on stage during an edition of Open Mic at the House Cafe in the summer of 2006, and continues to evolve into an event directing team which has toured area venues in DeKalb and Kane County since. Their events typically feature a running story-line, along with exclusive live musical performances, and guest hosts, along with theatrical segments. The group will return to the House Cafe stage, where it started, in May, for a reunion event with the venue.
Wooden Box Theater appearing in ‘Chasing that Moon : Beatles Nite 8’ will be held Saturday April 21st at 7pm inside ‘University Suite’ on the 2nd floor of the NIU Holmes Student Center located at 340 Carroll Ave in DeKalb, IL. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information visit:
