Wooden Box Theater live at the Ellwood House

On Saturday October 21st at 6:00pm the Ellwood House Visitor’s Center in DeKalb will host area performance group Wooden Box Theater, as they showcase an event that will display local theatrical performers, area fashion models, local artists, and live music with their production of “Manos al Aire” The event takes it name from the Nelly Furtado song of the same name, which was featured on her 2009 Spanish language CD, ‘Mi Plan.’ The music video for the song inspired the theme and tone of the event.
Wooden Box Theater will use the event as the first night in a three night event mini-series titled, ‘The Re:Emergence of Wooden Box Theater,’ which will see the group perform in three area venues between October and April. Lead writer Daniel Sherrill explains, “With the group nearing it’s 12th Anniversary in 2018, we are always looking for ways to make our approach to event directing and the presentation of our format unique and compelling to our audiences. I am confident these next three events, beginning at the Ellwood House, will display this line-up of the group as strong willed and ready to have a very special night of theater, fashion, and live music.”
“Manos al Aire,” will feature guest hosts Jenna Bacchi (Temple Yoga in DeKalb), Kaitlin Burns, Kelli Ohlinger (LulaRoe), and Samantha Wilkening. There will also be special segments throughout based on the music of the Grateful Dead.Themed fashion walks will also occur during the event, by several area models.
Live music will be provided by Adam Linder, Bill Leighly, Jaysen Curran, Tiaira Austin, Joel LaVaughn, The Pleasant Street Players, and Schuyler Gomer.
Guest Appearances by Annelise Henkel, Annie Stern, Carl Nadig,
Margaret Maka, Pamela Schmid, Paige Karey, and Becky Love will highlight the event and display new cast-mates for the group’s upcoming performances.
Wooden Box Theater, as a performance and event writing team, began on stage during an edition of Open Mic at the House Cafe in the summer of 2006, and has continued to evolve into an event directing team and has toured area venues in DeKalb and Kane County since.
Along with live music and guest appearances, the show will also feature a display and showcase by local artist, Angelia Massetti.
The second event in the series, “Even the Stars Fall 4 U.” will take place Tue Dec 12th at the DeKalb Public Library, and the tour will wrap on April 21st with “Chasing that Moon’ at University Suite inside the Holmes Student Center at NIU.
Wooden Box Theater starring in ‘Manos al Aire’ will be held Saturday October 21st at 6:00pm inside the Ellwood House Visitor’s Center located at 509 N. First St. in DeKalb, IL. Admission is $5.00 at the door with a ‘semi-formal’ dress code.
