Ellwood Explorers: In Full Swing
September 14 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
September 14, 2019
From: 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
At the turn of the 20th century, the roots of two music movements – blues and ragtime, spread from the southern and central United States and began to take over the music industry.
Both styles would have inspired countless new listeners, alarmed a few members of older generations, and ultimately influenced the genre that would become the soundtrack of the 1920s, jazz.
On Saturday, September 14, the Ellwood House Museum will present “In Full Swing,” a free program for kids and families of all ages.
From 11am until noon in the museum’s historic Ellwood-Nehring House, join the NIU Jazz Education Network for an introduction to jazz instruments, interactive music demonstrations, and art projects based on the sights and sounds of the jazz era.
“In Full Swing” is the sixth of eight monthly programs as part of Ellwood Explorers, the Ellwood House Museum’s youth educational series. Programs are free of charge and last approximately one hour.
All ages are welcome. Space is limited to 50 attendees, and registration is required. For more information or to register to attend, please visit ellwoodhouse.org/learn or call (815) 756-4609.
Ellwood Explorers is generously supported by the Cy Miller Foundation. The museum is located at 509 N. First Street in DeKalb.
