January 17, 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the Volstead Act, a US law that provided grounds for the US to enforce the eighteenth amendment, effectively launching thirteen tumultuous years of Prohibition in the United States.
To commemorate the historic date, we are excited to announce a brand-new event at the Ellwood House Museum – “Against the Grain: A Speakeasy Challenge.”
On Saturday, April 25, solve a series of Prohibition-themed puzzles on the first floor of the Ellwood mansion to reveal a secret password and gain entry to our underground speakeasy. Once you’re in, enjoy live performances by Dimensions Dance Academy as you sip authentic cocktails (mixed by Whiskey Acres) based on the hidden ingredients found in Perry Ellwood’s rumored Prohibition cellar.
Costumes are encouraged! Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages for inspiration and event previews.
Tickets are $30 each, and can be purchased via against-the-grain.eventbrite.com. $25 discounted student and member tickets are available – contact firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
